A group of doctors are slamming Joe Biden’s CDC for misrepresenting their coronavirus research on opening schools and saying the CDC’s policies are “unwarranted” and “harming children.”
The CDC released an entirely political set of recommendations for reopening America’s schools but some of the doctors who’s research the CDC cited for their rules say that Biden’s health agency misrepresented their work.
Doctors Tara O. Henderson, Monica Gandhi, Tracy Beth Hoeg, and Daniel Johnson posted an op-ed stating outright that there is very little danger to students, teachers, of staff to reopen America’s schools.
The doctors said that the CDC’s “guidance does not take into account the data we have regarding little disease transmission in schools. Nor, although the guidance cites the work performed across Wisconsin districts performed by our group and published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, does it take that data and new analyses from that data set into account.”
“Keeping schools closed or even partially closed, based on what we know now is unwarranted, is harming children, and has become a human rights issue,” they added.
Here are the facts in the doctor’s op-ed:
First, children are not at significant risk of poor outcomes from COVID-19. As of Tuesday, 288 children have died from the disease in the United States, compared with more than 500,000 adults. While the death of any child is devastating, this is similar to the number who dies from influenza each year.
And COVID-19 deaths in children and adolescents are magnitudes smaller than deaths from suicide, some now driven by school closure. Coronavirus in children can cause potentially dangerous complications — e.g., multi-inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) — but this is very rare and in nearly all cases treatable.
Second, viral spread is minimal in schools with appropriate safety precautions, even in communities with a high disease prevalence (significantly higher than the CDC red zone that the CDC suggests middle and high schools be all virtual and elementary schools hybrid).
There is much more in the op-ed, of course, but these are the important facts showing that the O’Biden administration is playing politics with our children’s health.
Now… wasn’t Joe Biden going to go with the “science”?
