Chicken with Three-Inch Knife Kills Man… No, I’m Serious

Rooster and Chickens.

OK, so the moral of this story is don’t give your rooster a three-inch knife. And one man in India learned this lesson the hard way, paying with his life!

According to the Associated Press, a man named Thangulla Satish, who lived in Lothunur village of Telangana state in the country of India, attached a sharp knife to his rooster’s talon while training the animal for illegal cock fights in his town.

Sadly for Mr. Satish, the rooster gave him a few swift kicks, one of which plunged the knife into the man’s groin. He then promptly bled out and died from the injury.

According to Jeevan, Satish was injured while he prepared the rooster for a fight. “Satish was hit by the rooster’s knife in his groin and started bleeding heavily,” the officer said, adding that the man died on the way to a hospital.

Jeevan said police filed a case and were looking for over a dozen people involved in organizing the cockfight. If proven guilty, the organizers can be jailed for up to two years.

Cockfights are common in the southern Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka despite a countrywide ban imposed in 1960. Animals rights activists have for long been calling to control the illegal practice, which is mainly organized as part of local Hindu festivals usually attended by hundreds of people, though the crowds sometimes swell to thousands. The cockfights are often held under the watch of powerful, local politicians and involve large sums of betting money.

Mr. Satish is not the first victim of roosters wielding knives, either.

The AP adds that in the last several years, two men have died at the hands… or talons… of their chickens. One man was stabbed in the neck by his rooster while the second man got his jugular vein sliced open. Both bled out before help could arrive.

So, the moral is don’t bring a chicken to a knife fight… or don’t bring a knife to a chicken fight… I’m not sure which. Unless both of them are rubber, I guess.
