Republican Missouri Gov. Mike Parson has signed into law another one of the nation’s most pro-life laws, which bans abortions at eight weeks, the only exception being for the risk of life or major physical harm to the mother.
There are no exceptions for rape, incest, race selectivity, or sex-ability.
The law will officially go into effect on August 28, and of course, pro-abortion organizations are going to challenge the constitutionality of it.
Additionally, if Roe v. Wade were to be overturned, the law is designed to kick-in as a full abortion ban.
Responding to criticism over the lack of exceptions for abortion post-eight weeks, Gov. Parson argued that two months is enough time to decide to get an abortion, even in tough cases.
“Is it a terrible thing that happens in those situations? Yes it is,” the Republican acknowledged, according to Fox. “But the reality of it is bad things do happen sometimes. But you have two months to decide what you’re going to do with that issue, and I believe in two months you can make a decision.”
After the law goes into effect, those performing illegal abortions could face 15 years behind bars. Mothers, however, cannot be punished for having an abortion — as with Alabama’s strict abortion ban signed last week.
This is absolutely excellent news. Pro-life folk are winning this fight, we just have to keep pushing and standing boldly for our convictions and one day, probably sooner rather than later, abortion will be abolished and criminalized.
The left doesn’t seem to understand the point of these bills being passed. It’s not just to ban abortion in the state. It’s purposefully to force the Supreme Court to revisit the Roe v. Wade case and hopefully overturn it.
Let’s hope that happens and that the lives of the pre-born are once again protected and honored by folks in our country.
