Does anyone remember why America was colonized to begin with?
At the time, many European countries had government run religions and dictated how and what their people would worship. Some of the nations required everyone to be Episcopalian and worship how the state required them to worship. Other nations were Lutheran, Roman Catholic and other denominations. Failure to comply to state-controlled worship led to severe persecution. People caught worshipping in any other way or worshipping a different denomination were subject to being beaten, tortured and thrown in prison. They often lost their homes and all of their possessions to the government.
The harshness of religious persecution led thousands of Europeans to risk everything, including their lives, to flee to the newly discovered America. It was these brave religious pioneers who first settled many of the eastern cities, communities, counties and states. If you read the early charters of many of the first colonies established in America, you will find that they regularly gave credit and acknowledgment to God and often specified a freedom to worship as they pleased.
The famous Mayflower Compact was written by William Bradford and read in part:
“They [colonists] cherished a great hope and inward zeal of laying good foundations…for the propagations and advance of the Gospel of the kingdom of Christ in the remote parts of the world, even though they should be but stepping stones to others in the performance of so great a work.”
Similar statements are found in the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut Body of Liberties and virtually every other charter and declaration written in the early colonial days.
In colonial America, most of the important news, including governmental news, was disseminated from the pulpits of churches across the colonies. It was from the pulpit that people were told about the many taxes and restrictions the British were imposing on the American colonists. It was from the pulpits that recruited many of the volunteers that fought with the forces led by George Washington and other colonial leaders to fight for American independence.
It was the clergy who preached for religious and political freedom from British tyranny. On January 21, 1776, a Virginia minister by the name of Peter Muhlenberg preached from Ecclesiastes 3 and concluded his sermon with verse 1:
“To all things there is an appointed time, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
Concluding his sermon, Muhlenberg walked to the rear of his church, taking off his black clerical robe to reveal the dress uniform of a colonel in the Virginia Militia. Then in a booming voice he quoted part of Ecclesiastes 3:8, saying:
“There is a time to fight, and that time has come.”
With drums beating, nearly every one of the 300 men in the congregation followed Rev. Muhlenberg to war. The Rev. Peter Muhlenberg is often most remembered for serving as a Brigadier General under George Washington and playing a very crucial role in the Revolutionary War.
Religion was the primary reason America was colonized. Religion played a vital role in America’s history but if atheists have their way, all of the religious history that is so important to the founding, settling and growth of America will be erased forever.
Atheist groups like Freedom From Religion Foundation are systematically wrongly using the Establishment Clause in the US Constitution to remove any and all vestiges of America’s religious history.
Case in point is Lehigh County in Pennsylvania. The county was founded by Christians who sought a place to worship as they believed proper. They cleared trees, built homes, churches, schools and stores. It was these early Christians who established Lehigh County, so when the county seal was established in 1944, it included many symbols reflecting the history of the county, including a cross to represent the Christians who founded the county.
The FFRF has sued Lehigh County claiming that the cross in the county seal is a violation of the Establishment Clause. Most cities, schools and counties usually cave in to the threat of lawsuits, largely due to the legal costs involved in defending themselves and the fact that Obama stacked many courts with liberal judges, making winning their cases nearly impossible.
Lehigh County has turned to the legal help of the Independence Law Center. Randall Wenger, Chief Counsel of the Independence Law Center, commented:
“The county should not be forced to censor its history. When we do so, we don’t create some kind of level playing field but instead communicate that there is something poisonous about religion, and we should really end that hostility toward religion.”
The main reason America has decayed so much in the past 50 years is directly due to the lawsuits that removed God, Jesus, the Bible and Christianity from the public schools and government. Statistics prove that once God and Christianity were banned, America began to morally decay. Crimes began to increase as did sexual permissiveness and liberalism.
Christians bear part of the blame for allowing this to happen because most Christians remained silent and allowed the whining liberals and atheists to win time and again. It’s time that Christians start standing up and making their voices heard. If we don’t take action now, we will continue to lose all of our religious rights.
