New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has made it well known that is against most people possessing a firearm. If it were up to him, no one in the state of New York would own a gun unless they are in law enforcement or some sort of protection service.

He is pushing a new law that will close what he calls a loophole in an existing law in order to strip more Americans of their constitutional right to own and bear arms. Current state law calls for firearms to be confiscated from anyone convicted of a domestic violence felony. Cuomo wants to extend the confiscation to all domestic violence misdemeanors.

(Keep and Bear) – New York’s Democrats are proof positive that liberals have never met an overbearing government rule that they didn’t absolutely love (as long as it doesn’t have to do with drugs or sex that is).

Governor Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) recently proved this point when he began pushing a new law, that after some consideration is a lot like a law that’s already on the books in the fascist Empire State.

From TIME:

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday proposed legislation that would take away firearms from anyone convicted of domestic violence.

Under New York’s current laws, only domestic abusers convicted of felony or “serious” offenses are prohibited from owning guns. Cuomo said he wanted to close the loophole that allows gun-owners convicted of domestic violence misdemeanors, including some assault and battery charges or strangulation, to retain their firearms…

There are two inherent problems in this kind of law. One is that most domestic violence calls that police respond to do NOT involve a firearm. Secondly, an angry spouse or partner could easily make a false claim of domestic violence that could result in the loss of firearms of the falsely accused. When cleared of charges, the firearms are rarely returned.
