Texas church shooter Devin Kelley married a 19-year-old girl named Tessa in 2011 and the couple quickly had a child. The couple divorced in 2012, but not after Devin threatened to shoot her after she got a speeding ticket. In 2012, Devin, who was in the Air Force at the time, pulled her hair and lunched her and abused their infant child, which led to charges and his eventual discharge from the Air Force.
She also testified he pulled out his pistol and put the barrel to her temple and kept asking her if she wanted to die. She said that Devin had lots of demons and hatred inside him as he also threatened to kill other members of the family. Some reports said he went to the church last Sunday looking to kill his ex-mother-in-law.
The former wife of Devin Kelley, the man who opened fire at a Texas church last Sunday killing at least 26 people, said he had a lot of “hatred inside him” and threatened to kill her whole family.
Tessa Brennaman, 25, told “Inside Edition” that her first husband was abusive towards her and even threatened to shoot her after she received a speeding ticket.
“He just had a lot of demons or hatred inside of him,” Brennaman told “Inside Edition. “He had a gun in his holster right here and he took that gun out and he put it to my temple and he told me, ‘Do you want to die? Do you want to die?'”
The former couple divorced in 2012.
In 2013, Kelley pleaded guilty to choking Brennaman, pulling her hair and kicking her. He also pleaded guilty to hitting her young son’s head and body, fracturing his skull…
It wasn’t just the Air Force that botched up with failing to report Kelley’s discharge and past to the FBI, but the entire system failed because he had a long history of mental health issues going back to his early school days. Kelley bypassed the background system by lying about mental health on application.
