What would you do if an armed teenager or anyone else, stuck a gun in your back and threaten you? What would you do if you were legally carrying a concealed firearm?
That’s the situation that 61-year-old Darius Summers of Detroit found himself in. All he did was walk down to his local convenience store to get a cup of coffee, when a punk teenager named Xavier Futrell entered the store with the intention of robbing it or anyone in it. Futrell was carrying a gun.
Summers had just recently received his concealed carry permit and purchased a gun. He’s described as an easy-going musician who troubles no one, but felt it necessary to arm himself for self-protection.
Futrell stuck his gun in Summers back and demand that the older man give him his gun. Summers was not about to give up his gun, nor did he ever want to hurt anyone. That was fortunate for Futrell, otherwise he might be dead instead of what happened to him.
61-year old Darius Summers is a simple mild-mannered musician trying to enjoy his life in Detroit.
On Sunday morning Summers was near his home on Detroit’s west side when he decided to head down to his local gas station/convenience store to pick up a cup of coffee. “I just wanted some coffee, so I walked down here,” Summers told the local media.
Summers was in the store when an armed teenager walked in and noticed that Summers too was armed, having recently received his license to carry concealed. The teenager, Xavier Futrell, must have seen Summers as an easy target because he immediately decided to try to rob the older man…
Had I been in Summers’ shoes, Futrell would not have just been wounded and able to walk out of the store. Rather, he would have been dead and in needing of being carried out in a body bag. Fortunately, police were able to quickly arrest Futrell and his accomplice who was waiting outside for him. However, it goes to show that carrying a concealed weapon can stop crime.
