Dem Rep Using Campaign Funds to Pay Sister’s Law Firm

William Lacy Clay (D-MO) is running for re-election and like many political campaigns, they hire legal firms to help with certain matters. Michelle Clay, the Representative’s sister owns a law firm and according to campaign records has been paid well over $80,000 from Clay’s campaign. What makes this so highly questionable is that his sister’s law firm accounts for over 70% of the brother’s campaign fund total expenditures.

Democratic Rep. William Lacy Clay (Mo.) has paid a law firm owned by his sister more than $80,000 from his campaign funds so far this year, newly released campaign finance records show.

Clay Jr. For Congress released their second quarter figures late Friday, which shed light on the campaign’s financials spanning from April 1 to June 30.

The records show that Clay has continued to disburse tens of thousands to the Law Office of Michelle C. Clay LLC, a Silver-Spring, Md.-based firm that is owned by his sister. The firm is located just outside of Washington, D.C…

So far this year, Clay has paid his sister’s firm around $115,000 and records show that this not the first time his campaign has paid his sister’s law firm. While paying a family member’s law firm is not illegal, Clay has some explaining to do as why over 70% of his total campaign spending has gone to his sister’s law firm. This is highly irregular and something the mainstream media seems to be ignoring.
