$1.3 Billion Healthcare Fraud leads to Charges Against Hundreds of People

The liberal Obama administration didn’t care how much taxpayer money criminals stole by fraudulent means, especially via Obamacare. However, those days are over as the Department of Justice is clamping down on healthcare fraud. The Medicare Fraud Strike Force found enough evidence to bring criminal charges against over 400 people, many of which were medical professionals for defrauding the system out of over $1 billion.

More than 400 people across the country have been charged with participating in health care fraud scams totaling about $1.3 billion in false billings, including for the prescription and distribution of opioids.

In what federal officials Thursday called the “largest ever health care fraud enforcement action” by the Medicare Fraud Strike Force, 412 individuals, including 115 doctors, nurses and other licensed medical professionals, were arrested in a nationwide operation that involved more than 1,000 law enforcement agents in at least 30 states.

“One American dies of a drug overdose every 11 minutes and more than 2 million Americans are ensnared in addiction to prescription painkillers,” Attorney General Jeff Sessions said at a news conference. “We will continue to find, arrest, prosecute, convict and incarcerate fraudsters and drug dealers wherever they are.” …

Among those being charged with fraud are doctors. I know one doctor that should be charged for fraud as he billed Workman’s Compensation $1,600 for one treatment of cortisone He billed them $160 for every cc of cortisone injected into a spasming muscle. He injected 10 cc, and we accidentally saw his bill of $1,600 for the injection. The patient received at least 2 such injections a week for nearly 5 months. That means he billed WC for over $64,000 for the course of treatment that shouldn’t have cost any more than a couple thousand.
