Last Wednesday, 38-year-old Jimmy Lam was dressed in his brown UPS uniform at a UPS sorting warehouse in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, when he pulled out a gun and opened fire on co-workers. That UPS warehouse employs 350 people, but fortunately, only 3 were killed and two others wounded before Lam turned his gun on himself, ending the shooting rampage.
The three UPS employees that never made it home that day were 46-year-old Michael Lefiti, 50-year-old Benson Louie and 56-year-old Wayne Chan, all of who were fellow UPS drivers. I join the rest of the nation in praying for the families of three slain people who never thought their lives would end that day at work.
UPS issued an official statement, reading:
“The company is saddened and deeply concerned about affected employees, family members and the community we share. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those touched by this incident.”
At this time, no motive has ever been confirmed, however, there are reports that Lam had filed a grievance in March against UPS for his working excessive overtime, but authorities are not saying this had anything to do with Lam’s motive, at least at this time.
Regardless of Lam’s motive, some liberal Democrats are blaming guns and the lack of enough gun-control laws for the UPS and Virginia shootings. California State Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) is one of those liberals calling for more gun-control laws. He told the media:
“We have tightened our laws but we don’t have closed (states’) borders. Until Congress acts and addresses what is a national issue in a country awash in guns, we’re going to see these horrific tragedies.”
It’s interesting that Wiener mentioned lack of closed state borders when San Francisco is a sanctuary city, who doesn’t believe in closed national borders, let alone closed state borders. Is he advocating that California or other states should close their borders to American citizens from other states? San Francisco liberals don’t believe in building a wall between the US and Mexico or in securing the border to stop the flow of illegal aliens into the United States, so why even mention closed borders?.
He also blames the lack of stricter gun-control laws. California has some of the strictest state gun-control laws in the nation, but that didn’t seem to deter Lam from shooting his fellow UPS drivers. California’s strict gun control laws didn’t stop either of the San Bernardino shootings nor did it stop the tragic shooting of Kathryn Steinle who was shot on a San Francisco pier by an illegal alien protected by San Francisco’s sanctuary policy.
Baltimore has strict gun-control laws and yet they have been experiencing an increase in gun violence. Seattle has strict gun-control laws and even passed a tax on firearms and ammunition to help curb violence, but Seattle’s violence is increasing. When you combine the gun-control laws of Illinois, Cook County and the City of Chicago you will find some of the strictest in the land, and yet Chicago is racing to take over as the gun homicide capital of the US. Ironically, the murder capital of the US is Los Angeles which is located in gun-strict California.
State Sen. Wiener needs to be schooled about his hypocrisy of closed borders and on the facts surrounding strict gun-control laws and higher than average incidents of gun violence. He obviously has no clue.
