Tesla’s Solar Roof Shingles Delayed 1 Year

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is striving to make the company the leader in solar technology and products. In addition to their solar-roof car, the company had reported making their solar shingles available for sale this April. However, in what is undoubtedly a disappointment for Musk and many customers, the sale of solar shingles is being delayed until next year since two of the four shingle options are not yet ready.

Tesla has delayed the roll-out of its solar roof.

The company originally said it will begin selling its solar roof in April, but CEO Elon Musk said that two of the four shingle options won’t be made available until early 2018. A Tesla spokesperson declined to comment further on why the timeline had changed.

Tesla unveiled its solar roof product in late October, about a month before the company acquired SolarCity in a deal worth $2.1 billion. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has said the solar roof will be cheaper than a normal proof even before factoring in the price of electricity.

Currently, homes taking advantage of solar energy rely on unsightly solar panels. The shingles are designed to eliminate the need for the ugly solar panels and help homeowners to produce much of their own electrical energy and reducing their monthly energy bills.
