Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is known for his conservative political views and running a tough law enforcement department. Clarke was first nominated by former Wisconsin Gov. Scott McCallum to fill the vacant sheriff’s post in 2002. Since that time, Clarke has continued to win re-election every four years. Clarke is registered as a Democrat, but many of his political views are so conservative that many believe him to be a Republican in disguise.
The Trump administration has purportedly tapped Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke to serve as assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security for partnership and engagement.
Clarke, a tough-talking, conservative firebrand recognized by his penchant for cowboy hats, announced the appointment Wednesday during an interview with a Wisconsin radio station.
“I’m both honored and humbled to be a appointed to this position by [DHS Sec. John Kelly], working for the Trump administration in this position,” Clarke told WISN Milwaukee…
Even though Clarke is a registered Democrat and ran for sheriff as a Democrat, he has endorsed Donald Trump since the early days of his presidential campaign. He even spoke at the Republican National convention, where he endorsed Trump in front of an enthusiastic crowd. I would not be surprised to see Clare change his political affiliation to Republican in the near future.
