For the past eight years, Barack Obama and fellow Democrats waged a bitter war against the Second Amendment right to own and bear arms. They tried repeatedly to pass unconstitutional legislation meant to strip the Second Amendment rights away from the American people. President Donald Trump told the NRA that the 8-year assault on the Second Amendment is over, at least during his administration.
President Donald Trump declared Friday that an “eight-year assault” on Second Amendment rights had come to a “crashing end” with his election.
“No longer will federal agencies be coming after law-abiding gun owners. No longer will the government be trying to undermine your rights and freedoms as Americans,” Trump said during his speech to the National Rifle Association in Atlanta.
“Instead we will work with you by your side,” he said.
Trump may believe the assault is over, but it isn’t. Many Democrats are still trying to push anti-Second Amendment laws through state legislatures. Many of those efforts are backed by millions of dollars from former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. In some states, Democrats are winning the battles, so the war is definitely not over.
