Egypt Releases American Woman After 3 Years in Jail

Aya Hijazi and her husband have been working with street kids in Egypt, trying to help them survive. Three years ago, she and her husband were arrested and charged with child abuse.

Many believe the arrests were nothing more than a political ploy as part of a crackdown by Egypt’s new Islamic government back in 2013 on civil organizations operating in Egypt.

A number of US members of Congress called for her release as did Hillary Clinton during last year’s presidential campaign. There was no mention of President Trump discussing Hijazi’s case when Egypt’s Presidnet visited the White House recently, but some White House sources says it was a topic brought up.

After Egyptian prosecutors presented very little evidence against Hijazi, she was acquitted of all charges and released.
